Tom Petty to Auction off Jaguar for Dr. Without Borders
[R]ock and Roll luminary Tom Petty is going to auction off his personal ’96 Jaguar XJS Convertible today through ebay. A car he originally bought in ’96 for his wife Dana, said, “I have so many great memories associated with this car. When I began dating Dana (my wife) I asked her what her favorite car was. So, I phoned the office and said I wanted a Champagne convertible Jaguar XJS. The next day they delivered it to my house and showed me how everything worked and I took it for a drive down the Pacific Coast Highway. I was in heaven, as was Dana. This car has such and incredible design. My favorite car I ever owned. We sure are going to miss it.”
The car will be auctioned off today at 2pm PDT and proceeds will benefit Doctors without Borders, an independent, impartial assistance in more than 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, exclusion from health care, or natural disasters.
This is super cool of him to do so, especially with the history surrounding the car.
