In celebration of Iceland Airwaves 2018 the new WFMO X Music Savage Show “Song of the Week” spotlight shines down once again on the beautiful city of Reykjavik and focuses brightly on the brilliant new single, “Night & Day,” from Icelandic trio band Vök. This song is the second taste of new music from the band since the release of their excellent 2017 debut album, Figure, and will be featured on their upcoming sophomore album due out in the spring of 2019.
Vök are Margrét Rán (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Andri Már (saxophone, synths) & Einar Stef (drums), a group of talented individuals who have been crafting their unique brand of electronic dream-pop together since 2013. A few months after forming they won Iceland’s iconic Músíktilraunir (“Music Experiments”), which is a battle of the bands contest that many of their peers including Mammút, Of Monsters And Men, and Samaris have also won.
Now that the trio have finished a European headlining tour they are back in the studio to finish work on their anticipated new album. Not before playing a few gigs throughout their hometown of Reykjavík for the 20th Anniversary of Iceland Airwaves. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Vök at both the 2015 & 2016 Iceland Airwaves Festival, during their sets at Kex Hostel (’15) & Reykjavík Art Museum(’16), and can honestly tell you they are not too be missed.
If you are lucky enough to be heading to Reykjavík this year put Vök on your must see list!
