The latest WFMO X Music Savage Show “Song of the Week” spotlight shines brightly on the beautiful new single, “Gilly,” from Mobile, Alabama native/Oxford, Mississippi, based musician Kate Teague’s upcoming debut solo record, due out in 2019. Teague became well known for her songwriting prowess as the frontwoman for the Oxford indie band Reels after the release of the their self-tilted debut EP in 2015.
“Gilly” takes on the difficulty of comforting a loved one during a difficult time while being far away from the person you want just want to hug. When asked on the subject matter of the deeply personal song she said “My sister was going through a difficult time and it hurt me that I couldn’t be there for her since we live far apart. Most of our calls consisted of me listening to her because I didn’t want to upset her by giving her unsolicited advice. Writing this was the best way I knew to make sense of both of our feelings at the time.”
The song is a beautiful gift given to mend a broken heart. When a songwriter reaches down deep to find the words, and shares those words with the world, the outcome is always incredible.
