Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin Lets it Sway...
Back in the Saddle
Sink / Let it Sway
Banned (by the Man)
First off, I’ve listened to this album so much, it might be a little difficult for me to be unbiased. But I guess that’s the point now isn’t it? Either way, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin has just released their newest album, and it’s quickly become a go to for me. As usual, the songs are crafted nicely. They have really found themselves to be great at making catchy indie/pop rock and on this album there’s a great blend of uplifting, anthemic songs (See Back in the Saddle and Phantomwise) and the melodramatic (see: Stuart Gets Lost Dans Le Metro).
If you are a regular reader, you’ve probably heard me go on and on about these guys, and rightly so. The first two tracks they released from this album, Sink / Let it Sway, and Banned (by the Man) were definite toe tappers; and the rest of the album is full of anthemic powered rock songs. Back in the Saddle, which became one of my favorite tracks, it begins as an unassuming acoustic rock song, and seems to grow and grow to almost anthemic levels. To me, there are so many fun, great tracks on this album its awfully hard to choose one over the other.
The only disappointing part of the album is the decision to really not let them scream out. I would have been more attracted to letting out the energy that seems to be there dormant on these songs. I’m not necessarily sure this was a band decision, or that of producer, Chris Walla, but it doesn’t really detract all that much from the fun experience you have listening to this album.
Let it Sway is chock full of these catchy songs, this seems to be SSLYBY’s bread and butter.
Definitely should buy this one, I’ve had a ton of fun listening to it.
Buy Let It Sway now.
