Review | Fossil Collective - On & On EP

[T]here must be something about living in Leeds that inspires creative inspiration. A quick Internet search on the history of bands from the area brings up a pretty impressive list. Relative newcomers to the scene David Fendick and Johnny Hooker, otherwise known as Fossil Collective, are looking to add their harmonious voices to the well carved musical landscape of the West Yorkshire area. The duo began their journey in 2004 as part of a band called Vib Gyor, releasing two EP’s and collecting praise from DJ’s and writers across the UK.  Vib Gyor released their debut album, We Are Not an Island, in May of 2009 and disbanded the following year.

June 2012 saw the release of the debut Fossil Collective EP, Let It Go, garnering critical praise and putting David and Johnny back in the British music spotlight. The newly released On & On is a stunning 4-song follow up EP, which will hopefully be followed by a full length release and tour of the states. OK, I am getting a bit ahead of myself but it is hard to not want more Fossil Collective music immediately after listening to their first two offerings. On & On is a beautiful collection of expressive lyrics layered gently over a multitude of strings and horns, each track highlighting the meticulous attention to detail that comes with being in a two-piece band.

Take a listen to the title track from the new EP above and get to know the next great British import before they take our shores by melodious force.
