Devon Gilfillian‘s “Love You Anyway” tour—the Nashville-based artist’s first headlining tour which is in support of his sophomore album of the same name—hit The Sinclair in Cambridge, and mannnnnn, did they light it up! With opening artists Oh He Dead, this show was an electric cocktail of soul, funk, and pure unadulterated groove.

Oh He Dead—a DC-based DC-based indie soul band on tour in support of their own sophomore album, Pretty—kicked things off with infectious grooves and tight instrumentation, getting the crowd grooving from the drop. Their upbeat, soulful sound set the perfect tone for the evening.

But when Gilfillian took the stage, the Sinclair crowd erupted with excitement. The man’s got charisma to spare and a voice that could melt even the iciest of hearts, and it was evident that those in attendance had been waiting for his return to the area. Devon’s performance was a roller coaster of emotion, one moment, swaying with sweet soul and the next the entire club dancing like there was no tomorrow. The performance was masterclass in soul and funk, a night filled with heart, passion, and enough groove to power our move-it meters for weeks.

The northeast portion of the tour has finished, but the band continues to roll through the rest of the country. If you know what’s good for you, you won’t hesitate to catch one of the upcoming shows before they round out the year in Nashville.
