New Music | SZA - Aftermath
[L]ove at first listen! It’s not a term to be thrown around lightly, and yes I write about music I love with hope that our extended Music Savage gang (You) fall in love as well. New Jersey native SZA has a brand new EP out titled S and I can tell you that the moment I pressed play on the new single, “Aftermath,” the above mentioned term of endearment hit me hard. The track swirls with electronic rhythm-and-blues beats, a touch of dubstep, and just the right amount of dreamy synth-pop. With an opening line like “I apologize for waiting to tell you for so long/I am not human/I am made of bacon” you really can’t go wrong. Fantastic music production aside, it is SZA’s hauntingly angelic voice that stands out over the expertly layered dimensions of sound.
The EP S is the first in a series of 3 EP’s, with Z and A to follow shortly. If you happen to find yourself in New York this weekend SZA has 2 shows for you to choose from, or you can just see them both. Tonight (4/12) she will be performing at Glasslands in Brooklyn and tomorrow (4/13) you can find her at Pianos located in the Lower East Side section of Manhattan. This evening’s show will be with Chad Valley and Rush Midnight (Tix here) and Saturday she will be with Child Actor, YDIMITU, and Young Magic (Tix here).
