New Music | Sóley - Never Cry Moon
Icelandic musician Sóley Stefánsdóttir hails from a small town called Hafnarfjörðu and currently resides in the country’s capital Reykjavík. She was a member of the seven-piece indie-folk band Seabear and in 2010 released her fantastic debut solo EP Theater Island, followed by her first full-length, We Sink, in 2011, and 2015’s Ask the Deep, all on Moor Music. Her beautiful piano playing and ethereal voice have brought accolades from all over the music blogging world and she is a beloved musician in Iceland.
Her upcoming album is titled Endless Summer, which is due out May 5th via Morr Music, and I am thrilled to share with you the stunning new single, “Never Cry Moon,” a track which instantly envelops you like a warm, comforting hug. The delicate piano wraps around Sóley’s voice effortlessly and as the song builds layers of strings and horns are added in taking the track to otherworldly places. To say I’m a fan is an understatement.
I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Sóley live in Reykjavík a few times during the incredible Iceland Airwaves Festival, and if you ever find yourself in that wonderful country and she has a show I would highly suggest you go. She doesn’t make it to the US often but here’s to hoping the tour in support of Endless Summer brings her our way soon.
