New Music | Noah Gundersen - Family
From a small town halfway down I-5 between Seattle and the Columbia River, Noah Gundersen recently released an EP entitled Family that is full of beautifully written songs about his family and life in small-town Centralia, Washington. Only in his early twenties, Gundersen writes and sings like he’s looking back on his life, some decades later. His sound is a perfect mix of folk and americana sung over his sister Abby’s backing vocals and violin.
It is definitely this kid’s voice that hits you first. There’s tangible emotion and heart in every song he sings, whether it is the opening foot-stomping David or the quietly beautiful San Antonio Fading. But Gundersen’s songwriting is just as telling as his voice. There are moments in every song that are sung honestly and written beautifully. On San Antonio Fading, Gunderson sings about love that changes as it grows older. “But it’s not that the love is missing, it’s just not around , it’s just flowing under like rivers underground.” This kid, who has only been around for around 20 years or so, sings with more perspective on life than many people
who have been around for decades. And he pulls it off. Well.
Though he’s from a small town in Washington, Gundersen also sings of Nashville, Tennessee, San Antonio, Texas and the Hudson Bay. I’m guessing that in a few years, he’ll
have a following almost everywhere.
