Little Anchor – Until Our Eyes Adjust
Little Anchor is a Brooklyn quartet consiting of friends and former NYU classmates Alexa Cabellon on vocals, Kendrick Lo on guitar, Thomas White on bass and percussionist Ian Chang. Their new EP Yellow Lights came out today and there was never really any question of whether or not I would love it.
I went to high school with Cabellon, where she burned me mix CDs and suggested music for me to check out. Through college we ran into each other a few times at the Sasquatch Music Festival at the Gorge during summers home. And last April when I had lunch with her during a visit to
New York, I was genuinely excited to learn that her band, Little Anchor, was releasing their EP this September.
Last February, the band released their first single Until Our Eyes Adjust, which is a glowing and beautiful song thanks to Cabellon’s whispery
vocals and the four-part string arrangement.
But where their single shines on a slower pace, the rest of the EP is upbeat and fun. On the opening track Don’t Be Scared to Move, you can hear pots and pans clanging in the background, which the band recorded in Cabellon’s Brooklyn apartment. While each song has different distinct elements, like the guitar-driven Lady Tennessee and the piano driven Sea/MD, it’s Cabellon’s voice that ties the songs together.
Her voice is perfectly suited for daydreaming. So grab the album now and listen to it as the last perfect summer evenings fade away to crisp fall mornings.
You can download the album on
iTunes, or on their bandcamp. And you can check out their video for Until Our Eyes Adjust here.
