New Music | Grandchildren - Sunrise

Grandchildren

[R]eally enjoying the first track off of Grandchildren’s new LP “Golden Age” out 5.7.13 on Ernest Jenning Record Co. For those of you that aren’t familiar, and you can include me in the bunch, Grandchildren was the solo project from the diminutive Aleks Martay (he’s 5’3″) that flourished into a 6 piece electro-pop ensemble, this story feels quite similar in nature to Yellow Ostrich, whom I love. This first track, “Sunrise,” hits you from a few different layers, the opening atmospherics paired with a almost mathematical rhythm to it, and soon comes in swirling almost siren(y) vocal oohs, a primal heartbeat percussion and a musical subtext that seems entirely cinematic and seems to borrow from tons of influence. Really enjoying the vibe here, that’s part meditative and part awakening. Very cool track.
