New Music | Crybabycry - Spin City
Wait, this song is called “Spin City” but it doesn’t have anything to do with Michael J. Fox? That’s it, I’m done with it, get me out of here!
Just kidding. Despite its shocking lack of Burnaby, BC’s favourite son, Crybabycry’s “Spin City” is a great bluesy rocker all in its own right. It immediately put me in mind of The Detroit Cobras, and everybody knows that the quickest way to my heart (if you are a band) is to make me think of another band that I like, either in sound or name or attitude, or any other reason I can latch onto. In case you’re wondering about the quickest way to my heart if you’re not a band, that would be baked goods. All donations accepted.
By the way, Crybabycry’s origin story is pretty great. Jonny Firth, Rosie Doonan, and Nici Todd were at a show in Wakefield (the one in the UK, not one of the ones around here) and another band cancelled, so they formed a band on the spur of the moment and have been kicking ass ever since. When you go to shows with your talented friends, don’t you secretly hope that will happen?
