Let's Go to a Show | Goodnight, TX at the Middle East 7/25
Goodnight, Texas – Jesse Got Trapped in a Coal Mine
[T]his week, prior to Newport Folk Festival, we’ve got a group of really great shows, and the one I’ve got to put my stamp on is Thursday at the Middle East Upstairs. You’ve heard me wax poetic about them before, good friends, Goodnight Texas are back playing once again at the Middle East and they have got quite the set of opening acts. The night will be opened by, Portland’s Wesley Hartley, with his Texan roots brings to our ears dusty songs & world weary voice. Our good friends Larcenist will be there, delighting us and friends with songs from their recently released Eager City, Patient Country, as well as Boston’s Sam Bush and his Charlottesville based band The Hill and the Wood whose indie-pop/rock songs bring to mind the sounds of Belle & Sebastian, Bishop Allen and Wilco.
Goodnight Texas’ A Long Life of Living, was one of my favorite albums from last year, and we’ve had the opportunity to have their cross-country collaboration here in our city a few times, and I can confidently say they are one of my favorite up-and-coming acts. They write fantastic songs, filled with stories of simpler times, all set to an Appalachian folk style that can make you get up and dance, or tear your heart out.
I hope to see you on Thursday.
